Ledisi’s parents are Larry Saunders and Nyra Dynese. They were also in the music business.

Ledisi’s mother, Nyra Dynese was an American singer who sang in an R&B band, which was called “Coronava”. She also co-wrote the 70’s hit “Pillow Talk” with Larry Sanders.

Ledisi’s father is an American singer/guitarist. Ledisi is the granddaughter of the late blues singer Johnny Ace.

In 1995, Ledisi formed a band and later founded her own record label, LeSun Records, with Sundra Manning after struggling to get signed to a major label. In 2008, Ledisi released a Christmas album called It’s Christmas.

Ledisi released her second album, Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue, in 2002. The album included the singles “Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue” and “Autumn Leaves” and won the award for “Outstanding Jazz Album” at the California Music Awards in 2003.

In 2020, she released her ninth studio album, The Wild Card, and a live album recorded at The Troubadour. Ledisi has also written two books, Better Than Alright and Don’t Ever Lose Your Walk.
