James Catalano, a California resident and gun enthusiast, was detained for intimidating the parents of a late school shooting victim.

On suspicion of harassing a father whose daughter was slain in the Parkland, Florida, mass high school shooting in 2018, the FBI detained a Fresno man this week. Federal accusations are currently being brought against him.

Who Is James Catalano Living In Fresno?
The father of a school shooting victim is accused of receiving hundreds of letters from James Catalano, a 61-year-old Californian who resides in Fresno and has a passion for firearms, taunting him about his dead daughter.

Fred Guttenberg, a well-known champion for gun control, was the focus of a protracted harassment campaign, and James has now been charged with one count of cyberstalking.

Catalano didn’t seem to be aware that he was being watched. According to the complaint, Guttenberg’s webmaster installed a ReCaptcha widget on the website in February, logging the IP address of each user who made a comment.

Since the conversations came from three different IP addresses, the government subpoenaed Comcast for the pertinent data. Catalano’s Fresno home was connected to one of the IP addresses.

The second was connected to J-C Markets, Inc., Catalano’s commercial real estate firm. Investigators are certain that the IP address is linked to Catalano’s business, the lawsuit claims, even if the third test results are still pending.

The victim’s father, Fred, perished in the Parkland, Florida, school shooting. Nikolas Cruz, 23, pleaded guilty to 17 counts of first-degree murder in October. Jaime Guttenberg, a 14-year-old gun control activist, was one of the 17 people shot and killed at Marjory Stoneman High School in Parkland.

A jury is currently debating whether to sentence him to death or life in prison without the possibility of parole for the country’s worst mass shooting.

James has nearly consistently harassed Guttenberg online. James had been disrespecting him in his emails by referring to his daughter’s death as a sad incident. While Fred ignored the emails, he got in touch with the police to take care of James.

The loss of his cherished daughter has not made Fred any less sad. This year, she would have turned 19.

Catalano’s detention was maintained during a hearing on Friday afternoon, according to Jeff Hammerschmidt, his attorney. If found guilty, Catalano could spend up to five years behind bars and pay a $250,000 fine.
