Tinubu, VP Shettima, and other VIPs to pay tollgate fees at airports.

President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima will now pay tollgate fees whenever they use airports in Nigeria. This followed the approval of a memorandum from the Ministry of Aviation scrapping toll exemptions for all Very Important Persons and government officials using the airports during Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by Tinubu.

The minister, Mr. Festus Keyamo, who announced this to journalists after the FEC meeting on Tuesday, May 14, said the government had been losing over 82% of the revenue it should have been earning from the e-tags that give access to the airports.

He said the memos had earlier prescribed an exemption for only the president and the vice president before Tinubu overruled it and directed that both of them be included among those that must pay. Keyamo, who made the revelation at the post-FEC media briefing, expressed regret that the rich Very Important Persons (VIPs) who should pay were the category of persons who were not paying. The minister said only poor people have been charged for using the tollgates, a situation that must stop.
