Tom Conti comes from Paisley, United Kingdom.

The Scottish actor and theatre director was born in Paisley to an Italian father and an Irish mother.

Conti began his acting career with the Dundee Repertory Theatre in 1959. During the 1970s he appeared frequently on stage as well as in various TV series.

While performing in the 1972 play “The Black and White Minstrels” at the Traverse Theatre for the Edinburgh Festival, he was spotted and cast in the TV series Adam Smith (1972), which shot him to prominence.

Tom Conti has since starred in several films and television series including Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (1983), Reuben, Reuben (1983), Derailed (2005), The Glittering Prizes (1976), Censure (2022), Doc Martin (2004), Peripheral (2018), Mirette (2018), Paddington 2 (2017), Thunderball: The Radio Play (2016), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), Madame Bovary (1975), Atlantis: End of a World, Birth of a Legend (2011), Miranda (2009), and many others.

Tom Conti won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play in 1979 for his performance in Whose Life Is It Anyway? and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 1983 film Reuben, Reuben.
