Thích Nhất Hạnh was a Vietnamese Thiền Buddhist monk, peace activist, and founding father of the Plum Village Custom (the primary inspiration for engaged Buddhism).

Thich Nhat Hanh was born on October 11, 1926, in Hue, Vietnam to oldsters, Nguyễn Đình Phúc and Trần Thị Dĩ. He was the second-youngest of six kids, with three older brothers, an elder sister, and a youthful brother.

Thich Nhat Hanh was a graduate of Báo Quốc Buddhist Academy in Central Vietnam. He studied on the Princeton Theological Seminary and was subsequently appointed lecturer in Buddhism at Columbia College.

Thich Nhat Hanh was the religious head of the Từ Hiếu Pagoda and related monasteries and had spent most of his later life on the Plum Village Monastery in southwest France close to Thénac travelling internationally to offer retreats and talks.
