Suspected Robber Shot Dead In Upper East, Police Pursue Others

A suspected armed robber has reportedly been gunned down by the police during a shootout at the Nyariga Forest in the Upper East region.

The incident which was reported to have taken place on Sunday, 27th February 2020 was said to have happened after the police responded to intelligence gathered that some armed robbers are attacking traders from the Nyariga market.

Upon the arrival of the police, they chances upon three guys wielding pump-action guns and they engaged in a shootout with them which they were able to gun down one of the suspects.

The wounded suspect was immediately rushed to the regional hospital for treatment for medical attention but unfortunately passed away on arrival. The body has been deposited at the morgue for autopsy and preservation as the police continue to pursue the other two suspects.

The police retrieved a pump-action gun with the registration number MVS4951A loaded with five rounds of BB cartridge ammunition he was using during the operation. His backpack also contained eleven rounds of the cartridge ammunition.

The police, therefore, appeals to the chiefs and residents of Nyariga to help with information about the other two suspects.
