President Buhari has introduced a posthumous award to a Nigerian man, Joe Blankson, who died on July 28, 2018, after rescuing 13 individuals and was about to rescue the 14th particular person when he drowned in Rivers state.
Joe was broadly celebrated after the tragic incident for his heroic gesture.
On Thursday, September 30, President Buhari introduced a posthumous award to his wife and two kids.
Posting photographs from the award ceremony on social media, President Buhari wrote;
”On Thursday evening on the State Home, we honored the reminiscence of Joseph Blankson, a real Nigerian hero, who misplaced his life whereas saving others following a ship accident on the Abonnema-Bakana waterway in Rivers State, on July 28, 2018.
Blankson efficiently rescued 13 individuals, and tragically drowned whereas making an attempt the 14th rescue. He was the only real casualty of the boat accident.
I introduced a posthumous Presidential Particular Award for Bravery and Patriotism to his wife, Mercy, and his two kids, in recognition of the greatness and heroism of their husband and father.
We are going to proceed to rejoice the most effective of Nigeria and Nigerians, as we work for and sit up for a greater, brighter and larger Nigeria.”
