A street in New York City has been temporarily named after a legendary American baseball player called Jackie Robinson. The legacy of Jackie Robinson lives on as he was the first African-American ever to play in Major League Baseball in the modern era.

April 15, 2022, marks exactly 75 years since Jackie Robinson made his Major League Baseball debut and on such a day, it is worth it to celebrate and honour him.

An agreement was reached by the Major League Baseball executives and the people of New York to rename 42nd Street and Broadway to Jackie Robinson Way on a temporary basis.

The MLB Commissioner stated: “Jackie showed the world that equality should be a fundamental right for all and that real change in our society was possible. Our diversity is what makes us great as a nation and as a sport.”

Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919, and died on October 24, 1972, at the age of 53 years.
