Jerry Blavat Cause Of Death, Parents, Wife, Children, Siblings: Jerry Blavat, officially known as Gerald Joseph ‘Jerry’ Blavat was an American disc jockey and performer.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he developed a love for entertainment at a younger age, and growing up in Philadelphia, he became famous for hosting live dances in his area.

His love for entertainment led him to own an independent radio show, on which he introduced many acts including the Four Seasons and The Isley Brothers to a wide audience in the 1960s.

During the 1960s, Blavat alongside Jared Weinstein and Jerry Greene set up the Lost Nite and Crimson record labels. Together, the 3 also owned Record Museum, a now-defunct chain of record stores based in Philadelphia.

He also owned a nightclub in Margate, New Jersey which he named ‘Memories.’ From 1965 to 1967, Blavat produced and hosted a weekly television show in Philadelphia called The Discophonic Scene.

He guest-starred on several television shows including The Mod Squad, The Monkees, The Tonight Show, and The Joey Bishop Show. Jerry Blavat appeared in the movies too, he starred in Desperately Seeking Susan, Baby It’s You, and Cookie, among others.

For his contribution to the growth of music in Philadelphia, he was inducted into the Philadelphia Music Alliance’s Hall of Fame in 1993 and was also included in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of a permanent exhibit in its Museum of Radio and Records in 1998.

Again in 2002, Blavat was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia’s ‘Hall of Fame’. He was voted ‘Best Philly Icon’ in a 2018 reader’s poll conducted by Philadelphia magazine.

As of 2020, he was a DJ for oldies radio station WVLT (FM) 92.1 in the South Jersey area, for the University of Pennsylvania’s public radio station WXPN in Philadelphia, for radio stations WTKU-FM and WOND in Atlantic City, WBCB (AM) in Bucks County and Trenton, and WISL (AM) in Shamokin, Pennsylvania.

That same year (2020), Blavat expanded his radio network to the internet station Tyme 102.9 WTYM-DB in Zephyrhills, Florida. He celebrated his 60th consecutive year on the radio on January 15, 2020. He had been a major influence in promoting oldies’ music on the radio.

Jerry Blavat was fondly known as ‘The Geator with the Heater’ and ‘The Big Boss with the Hot Sauce,’ He died on Friday, January 20, 2022. At the time of his death, he was still heard regularly on his own Geator Gold Radio network, and on his weekly Saturday night show on WXPN-FM (88.5), The Geator’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Rhythm and Blues Express.

He died at the Jefferson-Methodist Hospital on Friday, January 20, 2023, at the age of 82. According to his website, Blavat was recently suffering from medical issues related to a shoulder injury and had to cancel an upcoming show at the Kimmel Cultural Campus due to his health.
