The Karnataka Police Department apprehended a man on Saturday who violently hacked his wife with a machete after she filed for divorce and the video is being viral on social media in 2022.

Mohammad Ejaz Shiroor, a 30-year-old Hubballi resident, was arrested. Apoorva Puranik also known as Arfa Bhanu, was his wife. After her marriage, Apoorva changed her name to Apoorva.

According to police sources, she discovered that Ejaz was already married with three children a year earlier and had kept it hidden from her. She afterward moved to Gadag to live with her parents and work for a private enterprise.

Apoorva then filed for divorce, and the case was set for a hearing on Friday.

Ejaz, a Hubballi local, was said to have been following Apoorva’s movements for a few days. Apoorva was transported to a neighboring hospital, where she is presently being treated. She is in critical condition, according to police officers.

The police also revealed that Apoorva and Ejaz married in 2018, despite Apoorva’s parents’ opposition. A child was also born to the couple. Ejaz, an auto-rickshaw driver, had also concealed his occupation, according to the police.

Soon after the incident, Sri Ram Sena coordinator Raju Khanappanavar said that Ejaz had imprisoned her after checking her family history and then abandoned her.
