Tyre Sampson’s coach calls him “Big Tick” and describes him as a “gentle giant”.

The 14-year-old boy suffered a deadly fall from a free-fall ride at Orlando’s ICON Park. The ride stands at 430 feet tall, making it the world’s tallest freestanding drop tower.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the boy was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

ICON Park’s Free Fall is the world’s tallest free-standing drop tower, and the ride reaches about 75 miles per hour.

The ride opened late last year and stands at 430-feet tall. It holds 30 passengers that are rotated around the tower and tilted towards the ground before entering free fall.

NBC’s Anne Thompson reports for TODAY. Warning: Some of the images are disturbing.
