Angelina Jolie is an American actress, filmmaker, and humanitarian known for her sex appeal and edginess as well as for her humanitarian work. She won an Academy Award for her supporting role as a mental patient in Girl, Interrupted (1999). Jolie has been named Hollywood’s highest-paid actress multiple times. She made her screen debut as a child alongside her father, Jon Voight, in Lookin’ to Get Out (1982).

Jolie was born on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of actor Jon Voight and former actress/model Marcheline Bertrand. She spent much of her childhood in New York before relocating to Los Angeles with her mother following her parents’ separation in 1976.

Jolie has been involved in humanitarian work since the early 2000s and has served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) since 2001. She has also been noted for her work on behalf of refugees as well as for her efforts to promote education and health care in developing countries.
