The Republic of Congo is located in Central Africa and shares borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Cameroon, the Central African Republic and Angola.

The earliest inhabitants of the region were the Forest peoples, who were gradually replaced by Bantu tribes.

The Kingdom of Kongo was one of the most powerful states in Central Africa from the 14th to the 19th century. It was founded by King Lukeni lua Nimi, who conquered the kingdom of Kabunga and established Mbanza Kongo as his capital.

The Portuguese were the first Europeans to explore the Congo River and establish trade relations with the Kingdom of Kongo in the late 15th century.

The Republic of Congo was colonized by France in 1880 and became part of French Equatorial Africa in 1910.

The Republic of Congo gained its independence from France on August 15, 1960, with Fulbert Youlou as its first president.

The Republic of Congo has experienced several political and social upheavals since independence, including coups, civil wars, ethnic conflicts and economic crises.
