Ramon Luis Ayala Rodriguez popularly known as Daddy Yankee, is a Puerto rapper, singer and songwriter. He is known as the King of Reggaeton by music critics and fans alike.

On March 21, 2022, he announced his seventh studio album Legendary set to be released on the 24th of March alongside its supporting tour, due to run from August to December. He also announced that he would be retiring from music after completing the tour.

Why does he call himself Daddy Yankee?

When he was a child, he was glued to MTV and BET, watching rap music videos of Dr Dre and Rakim. Although he did not understand English, he felt connected to the music, and at age 13, he gave himself a new moniker, Daddy Yankee which means Powerful man. A year later, he began recording himself rapping in Spanish.

Did Daddy Yankee retire?

Daddy Yankee has announced that, after more than 30 years in the music industry, he’s retiring. Before that, he is set to release a new album titled, Legendary. It will be out on March 24, with the tour running from August through December.
