In November 1997, Glitter was arrested after a technician discovered pornographic images of children on the hard drive of a laptop that he had taken to a computer retailer in Bristol for repairs.

Further images were discovered by police in searches of his homes in London and Somerset. A Bristol Crown Court on November 12, 1999, sentenced Glitter to four months in prison and placed him on the sex offender register in the UK after admitting to downloading more than 4,000 items of child pornography.

When Is Gary Glitter Released?

Gary Glitter could be let out on day release within weeks as he’s deemed to be a low risk to the public according to reports. The former singer was jailed in 2015 for sex attacks on young girls, was expected to spend the rest of his life in prison.

But he may be moved to an open jail from the Category C HMP, The Verne in Dorset in weeks and then be eligible to spend days out in the community.

Glitter is being held at HMP The Verne in Portland, Dorset, where he is serving his sentence. It is not the first time Glitter has spent time in jail.
