Valerie Anne Bertinelli was born on April 23, 1960, in Wilmington, Delaware, United States. Her parents are Andrew Carvin Bertinelli, and Nancy Bertinelli. Her father Andrew Bertinelli was a General Motors executive.
Valerie Bertinelli is of mixed descent (Italian descent and English descent. She was raised alongside three brothers: Drew Bertinelli, Patrick Bertinelli, Mark Bertinelli, and David Bertinelli. She lost her elder brother, Mark from accidental poisoning at 17 months before her birth.
Valerie Bertinelli studied acting at the Tami Lynn School of Artists and schooled at Granada Hills High School. Growing up, Valerie Bertinelli has lived in Claymont, Delaware; Clarkston, Michigan; Shreveport, Louisiana; Oklahoma City as well as the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles, California.
Valerie Bertinelli rose to prominence for her role as Barbara Cooper Royer on the sitcom One Day at a Time (1975–1984) for which she won two Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film. The show debuted when she was only 15 years old.
Valerie Bertinelli has also received recognition as Gloria in Touched by an Angel (2001–2003) and Melanie Moretti in the sitcom Hot in Cleveland (2010–2015). She has hosted Valerie’s Home Cooking (2015–present) and Kids Baking Championship (2015–present). She has received six Daytime Emmy Awards nominations and won two Daytime Emmy Awards for Valerie’s Home Cooking.
Valerie Bertinelli was previously was married to musician Eddie Van Halen (1981 to 2007) and Tom Vitale. She shares one child, Wolfgang with Eddie Van Halen.
