The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has said that the frequent death of traditional rulers in the South West is having negative effects on the region.

Adams made this disclosure while reacting to the death of the Aseyin of Iseyin in Oyo State, Oba Abdulganiy Salaudeen Adekunle.

PRESSINFORMAT recalls that the Aseyin joined his ancestors in the early hours of Sunday.

No fewer than seven traditional rulers have joined their ancestors in Oyo State in the last nine months.

Prominent among the traditional rulers is the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, who died on 12th December 2021.

Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, the immediate past Olubadan died on January 2 this year.

The 45th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, also died in April this year.

Adams has however said that the death of the monarchs is affecting the region and traditional institution in the region negatively.

Adams, who described the death of Aseyin as a colossal loss, added that Yoruba land has lost one of its illustrious sons.

The Aare Ona Kakanfo in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, explained that the Yoruba land is in a difficult moment due to the death of prominent traditional rulers.

“When you consider the rate at which we lose our traditional rulers, particularly, in Oyo state in the last seven months you begin to wonder why and how this had negatively affected Yoruba land and the traditional institution across the southwest.

“These are very difficult moments in our history because Yoruba don’t lose prominent Obas in such a shocking manner.

“The death of Aseyin has robbed us of an exemplary ruler whose life was a true reflection of service to humanity.

“Part of his achievements are very obvious because he brought unprecedented development to Iseyin town, making the town one of the fast developing in Oyo town,” he said.
