Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor who held a world-record 1,093 patents. He was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio and died on October 18, 1931 in West Orange, New Jersey. Edison created the world’s first industrial research laboratory.

When Edison was seven his family moved to Port Huron, Michigan. Edison had very little formal education as a child, attending school only for a few months. He was the seventh and last child of Samuel Ogden Edison Jr. and Nancy Matthews Elliott.
