Texas Governor Bus

On a bus dispatched by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a group of undocumented migrants arrived in the nation’s capital on Wednesday, April 6 2022, part of the Republican governor’s effort to resist the Biden administration’s rescinding of a Trump-era border policy.

“By busing migrants to Washington, D.C., the Biden Administration will be better able to answer the needs of the people they are permitting to cross our border,” Abbott said in a statement on Wednesday, adding that another busload is on its way.

The migrants were being dropped off between Union Station and the Capitol as “part of Governor Abbott’s response to the Biden Administration’s decision to halt Title 42 expulsions,” according to his office.

Abbott, who is seeking re-election in November, announced last week that he had ordered the Texas Division of Emergency Management to charter buses to take the migrants to Washington, D.C. “Texas should not be held responsible for the Biden Administration’s inability to secure our border,” he stated on Wednesday.

The persons coming to D.C. have all been screened by US Customs and Border Protection, according to White House press secretary Jen Psaki, “so it’s good the state of Texas is assisting them to get to their final destination while they await the outcome of their immigration processes.”
