Taraba killings: Lawmaker demands establishment of commission of inquiry

He demanded the constitution of a commission of inquiry into the killings.

Alleging that the Fulani militias have invaded Kuteb communities in both Takum and Ussa councils, as well as Yangtu Development Area, inaugurating a commission of inquiry, he believed would go a long way to address the situation.

He made the call during an interactive session with media practitioners in Jalingo, the state capital.

The member, who went ahead to cite the information available in the public domain, was of the view that the crisis is being fueled by certain individuals whom he said have been fingered.

“I want to call on the Taraba State Government to set up a commission of inquiry into this crisis to unravel some of the facts and issues surrounding the crisis which many are tagging as politically motivated,” he said.

Stressing that “What started like a little misunderstanding between Fulani herdsmen and Kuteb farmers in January this year has now become a total invasion and occupation of no fewer than 25 communities in my constituency by armed Fulani bandits” in the last two days, Kpashimbe, Sabon-Gida Kpashimbe, Manya and Flash communities, as stated by him “came under attack leaving two people dead and several others injured.”

Admitting that “Today, Tati, Gandum I and II, Muji 1 and II among several other communities along the Manya -Takum road have been deserted, he lamented that the Fulani herders are now grazing their cows freely on displaced people’s farms.
