Olympics-Cross-country skiing-Swedes to seek time switch over biting cold

ZHANGJIAKOU, China (Reuters) – Sweden’s cross-country ski crew stated on Sunday they may ask the Worldwide Ski Federation (FIS) to start out races earlier within the day on the Beijing Olympics to guard athletes from the freezing temperatures.

The Nationwide Cross-Nation Centre within the mountains of Zhangjiakou, some 200 km north-west of Beijing, has seen temperatures decrease than the FIS competitors restrict of -20 levels Celsius (-4°F) within the run-up to the Video games, with brisk winds including a good higher chill issue.

He stated he wished Tuesday’s girls’s dash race moved to earlier within the day.

“Yesterday the competitors (girls’s skiathlon) began at 4 p.m. and Frida Karlsson was fully destroyed by the chilly. It’s not good that the dash begins even later,” Bystroem stated.

“We’ve got talked within the crew about making a request (to race earlier) throughout the day if it’s potential, on the similar time I don’t suppose will probably be potential to vary the time due to the Olympic schedule.”
