Navy says pilot forced to evacuate after jet ‘landing mishap’ that injured seven sailors in South China Sea

Seven sailors had been injured Monday when a fighter jet suffered a “touchdown mishap” on the deck of the usCarl Vinson and was pressured to evacuate, the U.S. Navy mentioned. 

The F-35C Joint Strike Fighter jet was conducting routine flight operations within the South China Sea when the mishap occurred, the Navy mentioned in an announcement.

The pilot was recovered by a U.S. navy helicopter after safely ejecting from the plane, the Navy mentioned, including that pilot is in secure situation. 

Three sailors required MEDEVAC to a medical remedy facility in Manila, Philippines. The Navy mentioned they “are assessed as secure.” The remaining 4 had been handled onboard by medical personnel and one has been launched. 

No additional particulars had been launched.
