Shannon’s main breakthrough came in February 1996, when she was hired as a featured player on Sunday Night to replace Janeane Garofalo after Garofalo left mid-season due to creative differences.

In 2022, Shannon released Hello, Molly!: A Memoir that discussed how the family tragedy affected her career.
