Lagos Government to probe celebrant who shared petrol as souvenir, seals event centre

The Lagos State Government has vowed to probe organisers of an event where petrol was distributed as souvenirs in the state

CorrectNG reported earlier that amid the worrisome fuel scarcity in Nigeria, organisers of an event in Lagos have provided succor for residents of the state.

They packaged petrol into dozens of jerrycans as souvenirs and shared to guests at an occasion tagged Erelu Okin foundation installation.

A statement released by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s SSA on New Media, Jubril Gawat and signed by Commissioner, Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced an investigation has been launched into the matter.

He also said that the event centre where the party held has been sealed for Contravening Public Safety Rules.

He wrote; ”The FLASH: Lagos to probe petrol souvenir at party.

The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to a video showing kegs of petrol being handed out as souvenirs at an event Centre in Lagos. The video has gone viral on the social media.

”The Lagos State Government through the Safety Commission @safety_lasg is investigating this matter and will ensure that all parties to this reprehensible action are made to account for it.

The safety of lives and properties of Lagosians and visitors remain a top priority to the Governor @jidesanwoolu administration. We, therefore , advise that actions that can lead to loss of lives and properties be avoided.”

Gawat added; ”FLASH: Lagos State Government through the Lagos Safety Commission and the Rapid Response Squad has sealed Havillah Event Centre, Oniru, for Contravening Public Safety Rules (Fuel Souvenir) … as Lagos CP orders the arrest of culprits involved.”
