Jon Stewart is an American comedian, political commentator, actor, director and television host. He was born as Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz on November 28, 1962 in New York City. He is best known for hosting The Daily Show, a satirical news program on Comedy Central from 1999 to 2015. He now hosts The Problem with Jon Stewart (2021–present) on Apple TV+.

Stewart started performing regularly at the Comedy Cellar and adopted the stage name ‘Jon Stewart’. He has directed the films Rosewater (2014) and Irresistible (2020). Jon Stewart came from a middle-class Jewish family, who had emigrated from Eastern Europe. His parents divorced when he was 11 and he later changed his surname to Stewart. Stewart graduated from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, in 1984 and then held a series of odd jobs before pursuing a career in comedy. He began performing stand-up comedy under the name Jon Stewart and quickly became popular on the club circuit.
