Heidi Horten, an Austrian billionaire and art collector, died early Sunday, June 12, 2022 morning at her home at Lake Wörthersee, Austria days after she opened a private museum in Vienna featuring her nearly billion-dollar art collection.

Heidi Horten died at the age of 81. Her cause of death has not yet been revealed.

 

Heidi was born in Vienna, Austria, on February 13, 1941. Heidi Horten was the widow of entrepreneur Helmut Horten. Forbes projected her net worth to be $3 billion in May 2020.

Horten acquired her fortune after her husband, the founder of the German department store chain Horten AG, died.

Horten served on the board of the Helmut Horten Stiftung, a nonprofit foundation that supports various healthcare facilities, funds medical research, and provides assistance to those in need.

Horten amassed a 500-piece art collection that included works by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, and Yves Klein.
