GM will resume Chevy Bolt manufacturing in April

GM is ready to renew manufacturing of its electrical Chevy Bolt in April after halting manufacturing to deal with a battery recall, in keeping with stories from the Wall Road Journal and The Detroit Information. The automaker initially predicted it wouldn’t begin constructing Bolts till at the very least the top of January 2022.

“GM will resume manufacturing at its Orion Township, MI, plant the week of April 4, 2022,” GM spokesperson Dan Flores mentioned in an announcement obtained by The Detroit Information. “We stay dedicated to Bolt EV and EUV and this resolution will enable us to concurrently change battery modules and resume retail gross sales quickly, which have been sturdy earlier than the recall.”

Recollects for the 2017-2019 Chevy Bolt began in 2020 following stories of the automotive catching hearth, and so they have been recalled for a second time final July. GM later prolonged the recall to incorporate all fashions of the Chevy Bolt in August after a 2020 mannequin caught hearth.

GM finally traced the difficulty to faulty LG Chem cells within the automotive’s battery packs and paused manufacturing altogether. LG Electronics agreed to reimburse GM for all the prices related to the recollects, which GM estimated to be round $2 billion. The automaker has since been working to interchange battery modules within the over 140,000 affected Chevy Bolts.
