First Lesbians Movie in Nigeria, to be Released Online.. Title: Ife (WATCH VIDEO)

Nigerian first movie-themed on lesbians is about to hit online soon so as to avoid any possible ban from Nigerian authorities due to its controversial nature. The movie Titled ‘Ife’ is centered on two lesbians who are deeply crazy with one another .

Producer Pamela Adie said “Ife” – which suggests “love” within the Yoruba language widely spoken in southwest Nigeria – would be released online to avoid any possible move by censors to ban it. “I really feel that the censors board is playing an enormous part in stopping these sorts of stories from coming to the large screen… and it’s just really stifling creativity,” said Adie, who declined to supply a release date.

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) didn’t answer requests for comment. A trailer released online in July shows the ladies discussing their love and, together character phrased it, the fear of being forced to settle on between your family and happiness. “The role of the film isn’t to mention ‘this is true , or not’. i feel that the role of film, and a filmmaker, is to portray reality because it is,” said Adie.

Nobody has yet been convicted under the law banning same-s3x relationships, which came into effect in 2014. But the case of 47 men charged last year with public displays of affection is being closely watched. many of us in Nigeria are socially conservative and a few religious groups brand same-sex relationships as a corrupting Western import.

Gay rights activists say the law has been wont to extort bribes in exchange for not pursuing charges. Despite the fear that the law engenders, Uzoamaka Aniunoh – one among the actors – said “Ife” offers a glimpse into the everyday lives of individuals in same-sex relationships. “I don’t desire it’s bold. I desire it’s ordinary,” she said.
