FG lifts ban on Twitter after seven months

The Federal Authorities has lifted the suspension of social networking web site, Twitter’s firms in Nigeria, following President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval.

Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement and Director-Widespread Nationwide Information Know-how Progress Firm (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE made this acknowledged in an announcement on Wednesday.

Kashifu well-known the approval was given following a memo written to Buhari by his Minister of Communications and Digital Financial system, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim.

He acknowledged: “The Federal Authorities of Nigeria (FGN) directs me to inform most of the people that President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has authorised the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria environment friendly from 12am tonight, thirteenth January 2022.

“The approval was given following a memo written to the President by the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Financial system, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim.

“Throughout the Memo, the Minister updated and requested the President’s approval for the lifting based mostly totally on the Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement’s suggestion.”

Twitter operations in Nigeria have been suspended in June last yr, days after Buhari’s ‘civil battle’ tweet was deleted.
