Edo vigilante member shoots at kids having fun with soccer, injures 9

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a vigilante member who shot and wounded 9 youngsters having fun with soccer on the street in Benin Metropolis.

 

Abdurahma Agbontaen, a member of the Edo Vigilante group was arrested for tried murder and unlawful possession of firearm.

It was gathered that the suspect angrily shot on the children who’ve been having fun with soccer in Enabulele Street, Ogida Quarters on April 23, 2022.

 

Spokesperson of the command, SP Bello Kontongs, who confirmed the incident said the injured kids have been taken to Stella Obasanjo Hospital for treatment.

 

“At about 09.00hrs on April 23, 2022, following a distress title, one Abdurahma Agbontaen of Enabulele Street, Benin was arrested after taking photos at kids having fun with soccer on the street,” the assertion be taught.

“He used a pump-action computerized gun inside the assault, with 9 of the kids sustaining quite a few ranges of accidents and have been taken to Stella Obasanjo Hospital for medical consideration. The suspect was arrested and the firearm was recovered from him.”

 

Speaking, the suspect claimed he had warned the children to stop having fun with soccer as they’d allegedly beforehand destroyed his property.

 

As soon as they defied him, he stormed into his house, took his unlicensed gun and shot on the children, injuring 9 of them.

“I suggested them to stop having fun with soccer in my area and they also refused to take heed to me. They’ve used the ball to destroy points in my house and that was why I warned them. I requested them to go elsewhere and they also refused. I shot the gun out of anger as I suspected them to be members of a secret society. I regret it now and I thank God no one died.”

 

The Head of Egor Native Authorities Administration and the Showing Council Chairman, Dr Osaheni Igbinigie, who was on the hospital to see the injured kids, described the incident as beautiful.

 

“We want the police to analysis the incident and ensure the right issue is accomplished.” Igbinigie said.

 

SP Kontong said the suspect’s psychological heath shall be checked as investigation progresses.

 

“The suspect shall be arraigned in courtroom for tried murder and unlawful possession of firearm.” he added.
