Colorado city settles nearly $3M lawsuit in fatal police shooting of 19-year-old Black man

CSPD stated the settlement will not be, “in any manner, an admission or indication of wrongdoing by these officers. Reasonably, it was a call made to mitigate monetary threat to the Metropolis and taxpayers.” 

The settlement additionally requires anti-bias coaching for the division’s cops, the division stated.

A state grand jury, the FBI and the U.S. Lawyer’s Workplace reviewed the August 2019 capturing however declined to file prices in opposition to the officers.

The Colorado Springs Metropolis Council accepted the settlement in a 7-2 vote and Councilman Dave Donelson stated earlier than voting in opposition to it that the settlement could be “disheartening and demoralizing” for regulation enforcement and residents.
