A Florida Highway Patrol captain has been detained and accused of possessing photographs of child abuse.

The 45-year-old Christopher Chappell, who is highly regarded and admired, was being detained on Wednesday in the Broward County Jail on suspicion of a horrific crime.

Chappell is charged with access with the purpose to report child-oriented images on at least one occasion, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office website.
