Benedict Cumberbatch is conscious of the controversy surrounding his character in Zoolander 2.

Within the 2016 comedy—a field workplace and significant flop—the Physician Unusual actor performs a non-binary, long-haired, eyebrow-less mannequin named All.

“There was a variety of competition across the function, understandably now,” the actor advised fellow Zoolander 2 star Penélope Cruz, throughout Selection‘s Actors on Actors collection. “On this period, it might by no means have been carried out by anyone aside from a trans actor.”

Cumberbatch continued, “However I bear in mind on the time not considering of it essentially in that regard, and it being extra about two dinosaurs, two heteronormative clichés not understanding this new, various world. However yeah, it form of backfired just a little bit.”

Controversy apart, being on set was a ridiculously good expertise. “It was pretty to fulfill you in that temporary second and to work with Ben [Stiller] and Owen [Wilson],” he added, “and the craziness of that movie, being such an enormous fan of the primary one.”
