Barack Obama was born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father, also named Barack Hussein Obama, grew up in a small village in Nyanza Province, Kenya. Obama spent most of his childhood years in Honolulu, where his mother attended the University of Hawaii.

He graduated from Columbia University in New York City in 1983 with a degree in political science. After working as a community organizer in Chicago, he enrolled in Harvard Law School, where he earned a law degree in 1991.
