Adamawa Poly matriculates 133 pioneer degree students

The Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, has matriculated 133 students for degree programmes.

The Polytechnic is to run the programmes in affiliation with University of Maiduguri.

The maiden matriculation ceremony took place at the Glass Hall of the Polytechnic on Saturday, when the Polytechnic authority announced that the 133 new students would pursue learning in seven degree programmes.

Delivering his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Aliyu Shugaba, reiterated the commitment of his university towards delivering high quality education to students.

He urged the matriculating students to re-dedicate themselves to learning to enable them to be good products of the institution.

In a welcome address, Rector of the Adamawa State Polytechnic, Professor Dahiru Muhammad Toungos, congratulated the matriculating students and charged them to concentrate on their studies and avoid vices capable of distorting their image and that of the polytechnic.

Responding, one of the matriculants, Miss Sihiyona Ampeni, pledged that the students will abide by the rules and regulations of the institution.

The Adamawa State Polytechnic which was established in 1991 through a merger of the College of Preliminary Studies, Yola, and the Staff Development Institute, Numan, maintains two main campuses: one in central Jimeta and another large one in Numan, with a smaller campus in the Jambutu area of Yola.

The Polytechnic had been running mostly national diploma programmes and a few higher national diploma programmes.

The matriculation of Saturday marked the beginning of the polytechnic’s foray into degree courses.
