16-Year-Old Girl, 12-Year-Old Boy Rescued From Icy Pond In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Crews rescued two kids from an icy pond in Queens on Thursday.

It occurred at Baisley Pond in South Jamaica.

The FDNY says a 16-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy fell by the ice, changing into trapped in chest-deep water and caught in mud.

Two firefighters went into the pond to drag the kids to security.

“It didn’t appear to be there was a number of ice till we obtained about waist deep, then the ice obtained very thick. We instructed the kids to stay calm,” one firefighter stated.

“He grabbed one … and I grabbed the second, and we have been capable of safely make our approach out,” one other firefighter stated.

The police division assisted within the rescue.

The youngsters have been taken to Jamaica Hospital to be handled for hypothermia.
