According to investigations, a smoking device was detonated at the station, as reported by a senior law enforcement official. However, the New York Police Department (NYPD) has reported that there were no active explosive devices at this time.

Sources indicate that the incident began at about 8:30 a.m. when the Fire Department of New York was called to the 36th Street Subway station in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood for a report of smoke.

Two reports have shared that five (5) people were shot. A preliminary report by the police said that a male perpetrator who was possibly wearing a gas mask and orange construction vest fled the scene.

The public has been warned by the police to avoid the area of the 36th Street and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn, where a large presence of emergency responders gathered.

While we gathered more information, we ask New Yorkers to stay away from this area for their safety and so that first responders can help those in need and investigate,” Fabien Levi , Spokesperson for New York City Mayor Eric Adams, shared on social media.
