”A life free of crime is the best life” – Delta state Gov’s aide writes as Hushpuppi turns 42 without any shoutout from celebrities

An aide to Delta state governor, Ossai Ovie Success, has commented on the muted response to the birthday of incarcerated socialite Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, who turned 42 on October 11.

In a post shared on his Facebook page, Ossai observed the stark contrast between previous years, when celebrities and luxury brands like Gucci publicly celebrated Hushpuppi, and this year, when there was silence. He remarked that, unlike the lavish celebrations of the past, no one seemed to acknowledge Hushpuppi’s milestone this year. Ossai wrote:

“What a sad way for Hushpuppi’s 42nd birthday celebration. Hushpuppi would have gifted himself the latest cars and designer goods to mark his 42nd birthday. He has been abandoned by his beneficiaries, as nobody wants to celebrate him on his birthday. Gucci failed to celebrate Hushpuppi at 42. Family, friends, and fans abandoned Hushpuppi’s 42nd birthday. Hushpuppi’s empty 42nd birthday should be an eye-opener.”

Ossai went on to recall that back in 2020, before Hushpuppi’s arrest, luxury fashion house Gucci recognized him as a valued customer and even surprised him with a Gucci-branded cake for his birthday. His 38th birthday had been marked by an outpouring of love from fans, with over 100,000 people celebrating him online.

But now, in 2024, Ossai noted the silence: “Gucci couldn’t send him a wish or post, nor deliver a birthday cake to him in prison despite his investment in their brand. Social media wasn’t agog because he is a known fraudster and currently in prison. Friends didn’t celebrate him because he is a fraudster. Family refused to post him online to celebrate him because he is in prison.”

Ossai reflected on how different things would have been if Hushpuppi had not been arrested. He believes Hushpuppi would have shut down social media with expensive gifts and extravagant posts. People would have flocked online to celebrate him, hoping to gain his favor. However, the reality now is bleak, with Ossai pointing out that people tend to abandon those from whom they no longer benefit once the true source of wealth is revealed as illegal.

In his post, Ossai warned against the temptations of crime: “So why involve yourself in fraudulent activities just to impress people? Today, nobody wants to associate with Hushpuppi despite benefiting from him. Where are his friends who were enjoying with him? Where are the fans that were getting constant giveaways? And where is the family that he was feeding? They are all nowhere to be found.”

Ossai concluded with a moral reflection: “No gain in fraudulent activities. No matter what you are passing through at the moment, reject the temptation of doing evil. And if you are already involved, you can still turn around and change your ways. Money or no money, a life free of crime is the best life.”
