“DNA Testing Is Not Part of Our Culture; Any Child Born to a Married Woman Belongs to Her Husband,” Nigerian Woman Declares
A Nigerian woman, Ogochukwu Juliet Victory, has sparked debate by asserting that DNA testing is not part of her cultural values, emphasizing that any child born to a married woman automatically belongs to her husband.
Her statement came in response to a Facebook post by Chioma Onwuesi, who advocated for compulsory DNA tests in hospitals after her friend discovered he was not the biological father of his three children.
Ogochukwu expressed her viewpoint under the post, stating, “DNA testing is not part of my culture. Any child born by a married woman belongs to her husband.”
Adding to the conversation, another woman, Uchenna Nneka Nwigwe, shared a similar belief, saying that in her village, all children born to a woman are considered the man’s, as long as he paid her bride price. She remarked, “DNA test is baseless,” reinforcing the traditional perspective that questions about paternity are unnecessary within their cultural framework.
