The Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo, has ordered the shut down of commercial activities within Akure, the Ondo State capital on Monday, August 22.

The monarch ordered that all marketplaces and shops in Akure and its neighboring settlements be closed in observance of the town’s yearly ancient traditional celebration, known as “Aheregbe.”

Michael Adeyeye, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deji of Akure, said in a statement that the closure is required as part of the long-standing custom in honor of the yearly Aheregbe Festival.

Residents were informed in the announcement that no trading or store openings of any kind will be permitted throughout the festival.

The monarch pleaded with market women and business owners to strictly adhere to the order.

However, the statement revealed that only pharmacies and other drug stores will be permitted to operate during the festival.
