Girl sentenced to 1 yr imprisonment for promoting her child and one other youngster in Akwa Ibom

A Federal Excessive Courtroom sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has jailed a 38-year-old girl, Flourish King Ita for human trafficking.

 

Hon. Justice Toyin Adegoke sentenced King Ita to 1 yr imprisonment on Thursday, Might 19, 2022.

 

Based on the assertion issued by the Nationwide Company for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Individuals (NAPTIP), the defendant was charged with promoting of a child and being an adjunct to the sale of her personal child, which offences runs opposite to the provisions of Part 21 and Part 13 (4) (c) of the Trafficking in Individuals (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.

 

Hon. Adegoke in her judgement held that the prosecution has proved the case past each cheap doubt and as such discovered the defendant responsible as charged.

 

She thereafter convicted the defendant and subsequently sentenced her to one-year imprisonment and a positive of 5 Hundred Thousand Naira.

 

Upon arraignment on the sixth of December, 2021, the defendant pleaded not responsible and trial commenced instantly.
