Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad formed the Swedish pop group ABBA in Stockholm in 1972. The group’s name is a palindrome made up of the first letters of the members’ first names.

They became one of the best-selling music acts in the history of popular music, topping the charts worldwide from 1974 to 1983, and again in 2021.

ABBA never officially announced the end of the group or an indefinite hiatus, but after their final public performance together in 1982, the group was widely assumed to be disbanded.

The group Abba was made up of two couples. Björn Ulvaeus married Agnetha Fältskog, and Benny Andersson married Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

Both couples divorced during the height of Abba’s fame, one in 1980 and the other a year later. In 1982, the band split up, with Agnetha admitting that being in the band after her break-up was difficult.

Despite going their separate ways, the band claim they never officially broke up

ABBA is back together in 2022. Not only has the Swedish pop band reformed to release their first album in 40 years, but they will also perform live for the first time since disbanding in 1982.
