While investigators investigate, “traffic is being diverted for an indefinite time,” according to the Memphis Police Department.

Onlookers could practically feel their breath catch in their throats as they pleaded and prayed aloud for the person to step down safely while they videotaped with their phones.

Then, in a surprising turn of events, a person jumps from the bridge, landing on the paved roadway below, which was clogged with traffic.

Police have not revealed any information about the death as they are still investigating.
