The true crime series ‘The Watcher’ on Netflix was created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. The series is based on a true story written by Reeves Wiedeman and published in The Cut in 2018 under the title ‘The Haunting of a Dream House.’ The story follows a married couple who have recently relocated to the house of their dreams in the suburbs and are looking forward to making friends and getting settled in their new community. However, what they thought would be their ideal home turns out to be the source of their worst nightmare when they begin getting weird and threatening letters from someone who calls themselves “The Watcher.”

The fact that the family’s new area is full of weird neighbors, any one of whom could be the creep who is harassing them with threatening letters, is one of the factors that makes life for the family even more difficult. The real-life story of the Broaddus family, who were followed by an unknown person who threatened them and forced them to leave their home as well as their community is depicted in the Netflix show. The suspenseful directing manages to keep the audience interested, but the film’s overall tone, which is somewhat sinister, and the opulent setting lead one to speculate about whether or not it was shot in the actual residence where the incident took place. If you have been pondering the same thing, you may put your mind at ease now that we have the answer!

The Watcher Filming Locations
The entirety of ‘The Watcher’ was shot in the state of New York, more specifically in New York City and Westchester County. According to the latest information available, principal photography for the first installment of the series began toward the end of September 2021 and continued until the beginning of March 2022. Now, without further ado, let’s have a look at all of the different places that are featured in the Netflix series!

Westchester County, New York

Westchester County, the seventh most populous county in New York State, serves as the setting for the majority of “The Watcher,” which was shot there. In specifically, the production crew sets up their base of operations in a home situated at 1 Warriston Lane in the suburban city of Rye, which is located along the coast. As a result, the production crew does not use the house located at 657 Boulevard in Westfield, New Jersey, which is where the tale takes place. Instead, they use a residence that is adequate, but which is significantly more contemporary and opulent than the genuine house. The actual address, which is 07090, is portrayed in the show; however, the zip code is changed to 11537 for whatever reason.

It is interesting to note that the series makes up a history for the house, saying that it was built in 1921 and has five bathrooms, four bedrooms, a semi-finished basement, a semi-finished attic, and an inground pool. On the other hand, the genuine Broaddus family resides in a house that was constructed in 1905, occupies about half an acre, has multiple fireplaces, six bedrooms, and four bathrooms, but does not have a swimming pool. In actuality, the Rye residence, which serves as a stand-in for the Westfield residence, was built in 2016 by the architectural company Douglas VanderHorn, which is situated in Greenwich, Connecticut.

New York City, New York
According to several accounts, significant portions of “The Watcher” are now being filmed in and around New York City, which is the most populous city in the United States. In the month of November 2021, members of the cast and crew were observed filming numerous important sequences for the first season in and around McCarren Park, which is located at 776 Lorimer Street in Brooklyn. In addition, it would appear that the production team recorded at least some of the first season’s scenes at The Tides Motor Inn, which is located at 888 Bayville Road in Locust Valley, which is just east of New York City.
