Touchstone Pictures produced Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, a musical comedy directed by Bill Duke, in 1993. Iris Stevenson, a choir instructor at Crenshaw High School, is a component of the character in the movie, which is a sequel to Sister Act from 1992.

In the story, Whoopi Goldberg reprises her role as Deloris van Cartier, who finds herself standing up to support her nun friends who are attempting to restore her previous school.

The majority of the original cast, including Maggie Smith, Kathy Najimy, Wendy Makkena, and Mary Wickes, returns in the sequel.

The director was Bill Duke. It was released by Touchstone Pictures. The 1993 movie was released as a sequel to 1992’s Sister Act. It was partially influenced by the life of Crenshaw High School choir teacher Iris Stevenson.

1. Whoopi Goldberg
With parts in hit films like The Lion King, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Girl, Interrupted, and Toy Story 3, to mention a few, comedy queen Whoopi Goldberg has had a tremendously successful career.

After winning Beyond Tara: The Extraordinary Life of Hattie McDaniel at the 2002 Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Special Class Special and Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Tony Awards in the same year, Goldberg earned the EGOT, which stands for winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

Before starring in the sitcom Whoopi from 2003 to 2004, she made appearances in a number of Glee, Harlem, and other episodes.

Goldberg reprised her role as Deloris in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, which was released not long after the first film. Since 2007, she has also co-hosted The View.

2. Kathy Najimy
Najimy’s role of the stupid witch Mary Sanderson in the film Hocus Pocus made its theatrical debut only a few months after Sister Act.

In the follow-up, Najimy returned as Sister Mary Patrick from Sister Act. Najimy performed the role of Peggy Hill on King of the Hill from 1997 to 2010.

Additionally, she has contributed to other animation projects. Additionally, she appeared repeatedly in Younger, Veep, and Numb3rs. The 2022 follow-up to Hocus Pocus will see Najimy reprising her role as the sinister Sanderson sister Mary.

3. Barnard Hughes
In Sister Act 2, Barnard Hughes plays Father Maurice. After Sister Act 2, Hughes continued to work in movies and television shows even though he was best recognized for his Broadway performances.

In the family drama Blossom, he kept as Buzz Richman until 1994. In the musical drama The Fantasticks, he played Henry in 2000.

Hughes tragically passed away in 2006 at the age of 90. In the television show Deadline, he made his final appearance as Judge Panicio. Although he briefly exited retirement to appear in the film The Making of Tron, he retired in 2000.

4. James Coburn
In Sister Act 2, James Coburn made his acting debut. The actor is most well-known for his roles in Western and action movies. After Sister Act 2 was through filming, Coburn continued to receive offers for roles in a number of well-known movies.

He won an Academy Award in 1997 for his supporting performance as Glen Whitehouse in the drama Affliction. In the Monsters Inc. film, he portrayed Waternoose.

Thunder Jack in the 2002 comedy Snow Dogs and the Pixar film from 2001. As Slaughterhouse Sid Perelli in the television series Arli$$, Coburn made his final on-screen appearance. At the age of 74, Coburn passed away after a heart attack.

5. Michael Jeter
In Sister Act 2, Michael Jeter portrayed the cynical Father Ignatius. He went back to playing Herman after filming Sister Act 2, and he did so until the final episode of the series, which aired in 1994.

In Jeter’s role, L. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, a semi-autobiographical book by Hunter S. Thompson, was adapted into a movie in 1998, starring Ron Bumquist.

The next part he played was Eduard Delacroix in the critically praised film adaption of The Green Mile by Stephen King.

From 1998 until 2003, Jeter worked on Sesame Street and Elmo’s World. Among his later roles, the voices of Mr. Noodle and Mr. Noodle’s siblings were provided by him. At the age of 50, Jeter died in 2003.

6. Sheryl Lee Ralph
Ralph has undoubtedly stayed busy since Sister Act 2. She played Maggie Foster in the television show George from 1989 until 1994.

Soon after, she debuted on the hit family comedy Moesha as Dee Mitchell. She is also well known for portraying the roles of Ray Donovan on the television program Claudette and Maggie Turner in the show Instant Mom.

In 2005, she wed Pennsylvania state senator Vincent Hughes. In 2012, she released her autobiography, Redefining Diva: Life Lessons From the Original Dreamgirl. She produced the sitcom Harlem’s Kitchen’s pilot episode.

7. Robert Pastorelli
Robert Pastorelli played Joey Bustamente in Sister Act 2. He portrayed Johnny Verona in Double Rush and Fitz in Cracker: Mind Over Murder in the years after Sister Act 2.

A home painter who spent more time giving advise than actually painting, Eldin Bernecky, made a comeback appearance for him in the comedy series Murphy Brown.

The unexpected death of Pastorelli’s spouse in 1999 ruined his working life’s final years. He died in 2004 at the age of 49. A year after his passing, his final movie, Be Cool, was released in theaters.

8. Maggie Smith
After Sister Act 2, Maggie Smith proceeded to have a successful career thanks to parts in Downtown Abbey and Gosford Park. She was one of the few actors to receive the “Triple Crown” for her performance as Mrs. Delahunty in My House in Umbria, joining a rare group of actors.

She was nominated for an Oscar, an Emmy, and a Tony. But Smith is best known to a whole new generation of fans for playing Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter movies.

She was working on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince while undergoing treatment. She was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2010 for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Season 2 of Downton Abbey.

9. Lauryn Hill
Rita Watson in Sister Act 2 was played by Lauryn Hill, who was still a few years away from becoming a huge global music success.

Blunted on Reality, Hill’s debut album with the band The Fugees, was released in 1994. In 1996, they released The Score as a follow-up.

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, the solo album she released in 1998, went on to win her five Grammy Awards and was recently selected by Rolling Stone as one of the best albums of all time.

In 1993’s Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, Goldberg and several other cast members collaborated. In Sister Act 2, Deloris goes back to the Catholic school she attended as a child to maintain its standing and reputation.

She tries to fix matters by leading the school choir to victory at the All-State Choir Championship. Despite not receiving as many positive reviews as the original, fans nevertheless found the sequel to be entertaining.
