There Is No Law That Empowers Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Of Lagos State To Overrule The Decisions Of The EndSARS Judicial Panel of Inquiry – SAN Ebun-Olu
Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa has mentioned that there is not any regulation that empowers Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state to overrule the choices of the EndSARS Judicial Panel of Inquiry.
Adegboruwa who issued a communique titled ‘Feedback On LASG White Papers On Endsars Panel Reviews’, acknowledged that whereas there’s provision for the issuance of a White Paper beneath the regulation establishing the Panel, there isn’t a provision within the Tribunals of Inquiry Legislation of Lagos State which allows the Governor to overrule selections of the Panel performed by open listening to.
He mentioned;
“Below and by advantage of part 15 of the Tribunal of Inquiry Legislation, upon conclusion of any inquiry, the Governor is simply empowered to concern directive for the enforcement of any choice emanating from the inquiry.
“The Governor can’t concern a White Paper to overrule the choices of a Judicial Panel of Inquiry.
“There isn’t any provision within the Tribunals of Inquiry Legislation of Lagos State which allows the Governor to overrule selections of the Panel performed by open listening to.
“As acknowledged earlier, the choices of the Panel had been self-executory and compensations had been paid to victims upon the success of any Petition.
“It’s improper for LASG to choose and select which choice of the Panel it could adjust to, on the alleged floor that the troopers/officers concerned are outdoors its statutory management, whereas the identical LASG conveniently paid compensations awarded in respect of police brutality and the police are equally outdoors its statutory management.”
