Terrorism: You’re in bed with mass killers – HURIWA to Zamfara govt

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA has asked the hierarchies of the armed forces of Nigeria to demonstrate with empirical evidence devoid of media propaganda any concrete counter-terror war going on in the North West.

HURIWA said the entire scripted propaganda about the so-called onslaught against North West terrorists remains in the realm of mere propaganda until Nigerians are shown evidence as the Army usually do when they kill Igbo youths under the guise of killing members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra or the Eastern Security Network allegedly affiliated to IPOB.

HURIWA said the hierarchies of the armed forces of Nigeria is more interested in ‘fighting’ North West terrorists that almost captured the nation’s set of power with media propaganda whereas the terrorists are still holding on to large expanse of landed territorial areas in the North West with many of the kingpins holding conversations with some state governments including that of Zamfara State which is now defending one of the most feared terrorist leaders with considerable control over his state.

The North West terrorists are still keeping hostages they took from the Abuja-Kaduna train some few months back.

HURIWA also carpeted the Zamfara State’s government for allegedly violating the constitution by the Executive arm of government illegally exercising judicial authority in absolving accused mass killers of the offences of widespread extralegal executions of citizens under the deceitful guise of a so-called peace process in that state.

HURIWA said the activities of the Zamfara State’s Deputy governor in which he is actively seeking a soft landing for a terrorist mastermind amounts to treason.

HURIWA expressed shock that someone who swore an oath under the Nigerian constitution to defend the Grund Norm as the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State is now playing the role of an arbitrator and is quoted copiously in the media as absolving and forgiving accused mass murderers including someone who confessed in the electronic media in series of interviews with Trust Tv and BBC that he was involved in alleged mass killings of citizens of Nigeria which in all intents and purposes are unlawful acts.

HURIWA recalled that the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Hassan Nasiha has said the notorious bandit kingpin, Bello Turji, has embraced the peace initiative of the state government as part of efforts to end banditry in the north-western state.

Nasiha, who disclosed this at a conference on the security situation in Gusau, the state capital, organised by the Students Union of Medina University, said Turji’s action was bringing about relative peace in the three local government areas hitherto the frontline of banditry in Zamfara State.

According to him, for the past five weeks, there has been no clash between the Fulanis and Hausas in Birnin Magaji, Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas of the state as a result of the dialogue to broker peace between the two warring factions.

‘’There were several wars fought but that did not stop the parties involved from dialogue to resolve their differences through a peace deal.

“It is in the light of this that Governor Bello Mohammed thought it is necessary to use kinetic and non-kinetic approaches. It would not be a gun battle or a war using whatever weapons between the bandits and the people,’’ he said.

The Deputy Governor also disclosed that the committee constituted by Governor Bello Matawalle, chaired by him, had held a peace meeting with nine bandits’ camps at Magami District and Dansadau Emirate of Gusau and Maru Local Government Areas of the state to stop attacking innocent citizens.

He said: “This is why in the last three months at Magami District, there has not been any bandits attack as a result of the peace initiative with the bandits.

‘’The committee met with nine bandits’ camps at Magami and Dansadau Emirate where the bandits raised their concerns.”

“They said the Hausas always attacked and raped their women, killing the Fulanis on their way to or returning from the market. There is no school built for our children, this ignorance pushed them to join in banditry.”

He further stated that Turji, who keyed into the amnesty programme of Governor Bello Matawalle, was now launching an offensive against the terrorists in the areas to ensure peace and stability return to the state.

The Rights group is therefore accusing the government of Zamfara State of aiding and abetting terrorism against the Federal Republic of Nigeria going by the public affirmation of the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State in which he has exercised judicial powers that he does not possess.

HURIWA is therefore scandalised that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government had to penalise Trust Tv and BBC for using their investigative prowess to expose the daredevil killings of the Fulani Ethnic warlords and terrorists with culpable responsibility for hundreds of deaths in Zamfara State and now the Zamfara State’s Deputy governor is speaking to defend the terrorist who openly confessed mass killings.
HURIWA is appealing to the United States of America, the United Kingdom and the international community to take note that the Zamfara State government is now controlled by terrorist sympathisers.
