Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore has slammed actress Regina Daniels’s husband, Ned Nwoko, and the Nigeria Police with N200 Milion Naira lawsuit.

Timeofgist remembers that Omoyele Sowore was arrested and detained final Thursday by males of the Nigerian police over a petition written by the Ned Nwoko for spreading faux information about him.

Following his arrest, a N200million lawsuit has been filed by Nigerian human rights activist and pro-democracy campaigner, Omoyele Sowore, in opposition to Ned Nwoko, and the Nigeria Police Force.

For the alleged violation of his basic rights, Sowore is asking for N200 million as damages and an apology to be printed in two respected nationwide every day newspapers.

The swimsuit is between Omoyele Sowore and the Nigeria Police Force as the primary respondent, the Inspector-General of Police because the second respondent, the Commissioner of Police, Abuja and Ned Munir Nwoko because the third and fourth respondents respectively.

The swimsuit is praying the courtroom for the next reliefs, “b) A DECLARATION that the detention of the Applicant on the twenty fourth day of February, 2022, from the hour of 4pm within the afternoon to round 9pm within the night time, by Officers of the first Respondent, performing below the directions and authorization of the 2nd and third Respondents respectively, over publications allegedly made by Sahara Reporters, a authorized entity, separate and distinct from the Applicant, quantities to a breach of the Applicant’s proper to non-public liberty and freedom of motion as assured below Sections 35(1) and 41(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As Amended) and Articles 6 and 12 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (Ratification and Enforcement)Act, Cap A9, LFN 2004and as such unlawful and unconstitutional;

“c) AN ORDER of this Honourable Court, mandating the first, 2nd, third and 4th Respondents to problem an apology to the Applicant, to be printed in two respected nationwide every day Newspapers for the violation of the Applicant’s basic rights as afore-stated;

“d) AN ORDER of this Honourable Court directing the first, 2nd, third and 4th Respondents collectively and severally, to pay to the Applicant, the sum of ₦200, 000,000.00 (Two Hundred Million Naira), solely, as basic and exemplary damages for the violation of the Applicant’s basic rights as afore-stated; e. AN ORDER OF PERPETUAL INJUNCTION restraining the Respondents by themselves or their officers or their privies or their brokers or anybody performing for them or on their instruction or authorization, in relation to this matter, from additional interfering with or violating the Applicant’s basic rights as afore-stated;

“A declaration that the arrest of the applicant on the 24th day of February within the precincts of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, by officers of the first respondent over publications allegedly made by SaharaReporters, a legal entity, separate and district from the applicant, amounts to breach of the applciant’s right to personal liberty and freedom…”

On Monday, Sowore’s lawyer, Tope Temokun, stated, “Wẹ have commenced the method of slamming N200million damages basic rights enforcement swimsuit within the federal excessive courtroom Abuja on behalf of Omoyele Sowore in opposition to the acclaimed billionaire politician, Hon. Ned Nwoko and the police authorities for the unlawful arrest of Omoyele Sowore on the Court of Appeal premises on the twenty fourth of February 2022 and for the improper use of powers by the Nigeria police, to put siege on your entire Court of Appeal for Omoyele Sowore on the prompting of 1 billionaire.
