The President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmad Lawan has asked all Muslims in Nigeria to pray for the country as they observe Ramadan.

The Ramadan fast started today and is urging Nigerians to pray for the country as the country seeks to overcome the challenges it is facing.

He used the opportunity to urge them to stress the messages of peace, love, and national unity as well.

This was contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Ola Awoniyi. The statement is titled ‘Senate President urges peace, national unity and prayers for Nigeria during Ramadan.’

The statement reads;

“I urge us to remember our dear country in our prayers as we seek to overcome the challenges we are facing as a nation. This is in the realisation that Allah is the Almighty, kind and greater than all human problems.

I enjoin us to stress the importance of peace, love, generosity and unity in our teachings during this sacred period.

We should also not let down our guards in the observance of COVID-19 non-pharmaceutical protocols in our spiritual and other activities during the Holy Month.”

The Holy month of Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and it is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community.

After the last day of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate its ending with Eid al-Fitr—the “festival of breaking the fast”—which begins with communal prayers at daybreak.
