Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna lawmaker says reform in the petroleum industry of Nigeria is critical for the survival of its economy and future.

The former lawmaker said this as he commended the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mele Kyari, for the transitioning of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC LTD to NNPC Limited.

President Muhammadu Buhari unveiled NNPC limited on Tuesday in accordance with the Petroleum Industry Act.

According to the Act, NNPC Limited will run a commercial and profit-focused organisation under the Company and Allied Matters Act (CAMA).

In a post on his Twitter page, Sani said the reform of NNPC as a limited liability company will reposition Nigeria for the next step.

His tweet read: “Reform in the petroleum industry is critical to the economic survival and future of Nigeria. The rebirth of the state firm as a limited liability company is unprecedented, important and commendable.

“Kudos to the GMD and the Minister. Repositioning it to post-oil Nigeria is the next step.”
